The highlight of Christmas in Cardiff is back for 2019 – bigger and better than ever before! From 8th November 2019 until 5th January 2020, you can join in and experience the ultimate winter experience – with plenty of ice skating, fun fair attractions, food and drink, and festive cheer available for all.

Plus this year Winter Wonderland will launch a brand new attraction that has never come to the UK before!

A visit to Cardiff’s Christmas Market will rival that of any European city, with rows of beautifully decorated wooden stalls laid out in the pedestrian heart of the city centre and all within walking distance of the transport hubs and attractions such as Winter Wonderland.

Get away from the hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping and visit Santa! Housed in a traditional wooden chalet, dressed perfectly for the festive season, children can meet Santa and his elves and receive a gift! No booking is required.

Explore the seven beautiful Victorian and Edwardian arcades that sit alongside the biggest names on the high street, earning Cardiff the title of City of Arcades. Inside you’ll find over 100 independent cafés, bars and shops selling hand-crafted, bespoke and designer items to help you to make your Christmas gifts as unique as you are.

16 November is ‘City of Arcades Day’, when you can expect fun events, discounts and deals, and some surprises!

 

SANTA’S EXPRESS LEGO TRAIN AT MERMAID QUAY

30 November 2019 – 5 January 2020

Mermaid Quay, Cardiff Bay

The brightly coloured, highly festive Santa’s Express steam train has an elf driver plus two carriages stuffed full with 24 presents and a Christmas tree – complete with 20 baubles – all made with a total of nearly 300,000 LEGO® bricks. The incredibly detailed, full contact models – which took 8 BRICKLIVE builders 1,664 hours – 3 months to build – will be on display in Tacoma Square in the heart of Mermaid Quay from Saturday 30 November 2019 to Sunday 5 January 2020.

CARDIFF NIGHT MARKET PRESENTS: CHRISTMAS THINGS

A fantastic festive evening featuring all your favourite market stalls, plus a retro 80s disco.

Following the success of Cardiff Market’s first ever Night Market, which in just three hours saw more than 2000 people browsing the stalls of some of Cardiff’s most iconic traders, a date has been confirmed for the next market. The ‘Christmas Things’ event will take place from 6pm-9pm on Thursday 14th November.

FAIR SATURDAY

Cardiff has officially joined the Fair Saturday movement. The city is now part of a global network of cities and communities, stretching from Lima in Peru to Madrid in Spain, that publicly proclaims our belief in social justice and celebrates the power of culture to create the world we want to live in. 30th November 2019 is the first Fair Saturday Cardiff.

DIPPY THE DINOSAUR AT CARDIFF NATIONAL MUSEUM

National Museum Cardiff

Dippy is venturing out of London for the first time since 1905. As part of a road trip across the UK, he will visit National Museum Cardiff from 19 October 2019 to 26 January 2020 – and he’s on a mission to inspire five million natural history adventures, encouraging everyone to explore the natural history collections and biodiversity right on your doorstep in Cardiff.

Public Transport

The city centre is easily accessible by train via Cardiff Queen Street or Cardiff Central stations. A number of bus companies operate around the region, with bus stops at key locations including Greyfriars Road and Westgate Street. For timetables visit traveline.cymru
